Beloved Alpine cop gets a fond send-off

"ALPINE -- The faded daggers tattooed on Capt. Charlie Yannetti's arms poke out from under his shirt-sleeves. His hair looks more suited for Kenny Rogers than an appearance at a courthouse.

The third-generation Italian with pierced ears doesn't look like a cop and, in many ways, he's not -- he's part concierge, part counselor and part confidant for many of Alpine's residents.


After 30 years, Yannetti's last day was Monday, which officials named in his honor.

"We all love him," Alpine resident Julia Makris said, after she hugged the captain goodbye at a party held in his honor at Borough Hall. "He cares about people, and we'll miss him." More...
